“The Wiz,” with music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and book by William F. Brown, is a retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the context of modern African-American culture. A popular film version starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross was released in 1978. Songs from the show include “Ease On Down the Road,”, “Home,” “Slide Some Oil To Me,” and “If You Believe.”
The Paliku Theatre production features a cast of 50, and an incredible production and design team. The cast is lead by Bailey Barnes (Dorothy), Zare Anguay (Scarecrow), Matthew Pedersen (Lion) and Miguel Cadoy, III (Tin Man). Featured appearances include the three witches - Jade Stice (Glinda), Alison Maldonado (Addaperle) and Pomai Lopez (Evillene) - Dane Ison (The Wiz) and Yvette Sua`ava (Aunt Em).
