SHOCKA: The Story Of Energy & Hawaii Is Electrifying HTY  ImageHonolulu Theatre for Youth's season finale SHOCKA: The Story of Energy and Hawaii completes a three part series of original musical theatre productions exploring topics important to Hawaii's keiki. Following the company's exploration of local food and water, SHOCKA focuses on Hawaii's energy future. From the energy that fuels our bodies to how we power our electrical grid this sci-fi rock musical educates and entertains audiences of all ages. "One of our most important roles as an organization is to include young people in the conversations that are shaping their future and there is nothing more impactful to our future in Hawaii right now than energy" says HTY's Artistic Director, Eric Johnson. SHOCKA will have audiences dancing in their seats while transforming them into the Energy Stars our future needs!

HTY is honored to be partnering with community organizations: Blue Planet Foundation, City and County of Honolulu, The Foster Family, Hawaii Electric Light, Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation, Hawaii Energy, Hawaii State Department of Health, Johnson Ohana Foundation, Kokua Hawaii, and Ulupono Initiative in the development ofSHOCKA: The Story of Energy & Hawaii. These organizations each bring an in depth and unique point of view relating to the science, cultural understanding, and specific challenges we face with energy in Hawaii.

The production was created by the HTY company and features HTY Company Actors Alvin Chan, Sean-Joseph Choo, Maile Holck, Jocelyn Ishihara, Matthew Mazzella, Nathaniel Niemi, Junior Tesoro, and Christina Uyeno. Directed by Eric Johnson, Set Design Eric West, Costume Design Iris Kim, Video and Lighting Design Chesley Cannon, Sound DesignMatthew Mazzella and Sean-Joseph Choo.

SHOCKA: The Story of Energy & Hawaii opens Friday April 13 @ 7:00 pm and runs Saturdays April 14 - May 12 @ 4:30 pm with ASL Interpretation Saturday May 5 @ 11:00am and Onstage Workshop April 28 @ 2:30 pm. Performances are at Tenney Theatre on the grounds of The Cathedral of St. Andrew. It is ideal for ages 5 and up. Single tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youth (18 and under) and $15 for seniors (over 60). HTY For Every Family Pay-What-You-Can performance will be Saturday May 5 @11:00 am.
