ProArts, Inc. will present "Social Security", the laugh-a-minute Broadway comedy hit, as the first production of their Fall/Winter season.

In bustling Manhattan, trendy art gallery owners Barbara and David have their life upended when Barbara's uptight sister and brother-in-law, Trudy and Martin, deposit their eccentric mother, Sophie, on their doorstep and then shuttle off to Buffalo to rescue their sexually precocious daughter from college life gone wild. Sophie moves in and is introduced to Maurice, a suave, aging artist who brightens her life in ways she never expected in her golden years.

On Broadway, "Social Security", written by Andrew Bergman ("Blazing Saddles," "Fletch") originally starred Marlo Thomas, Ron Silver, and Olympia Dukakis. The N.Y. Post called it "...a hoot, a sophisticated, civilized hoot!"

"Social Security" features the best of Maui talent, some familiar and some new faces including Chaney Cramer as Barbara, Kevin Hazelton as David, Joyce Romero as Sophie, Angela Thompson as Trudy, Jonathan Yudis as Martin, and Norman Halip as Maurice.

The show is directed by ProArts veteran Kristi Scott. The Manhattan apartment set is designed by Caro Walker with costumes by Marsha Kelly and lighting by Bonnie Prucha. ProArts productions are produced by Jonathan Lehman.

Opening night is September 2 and the show runs until September 18, 2011; Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm. There will be no performance on September 4. ProArts offers reserved seats for adults at $20.00 and for students 18 & under at $15.00. Kama'?ina nights are scheduled for Saturday, September 3, and Thursdays, September 8 and 15. Hawaiian residents get a discount for those performances.

The intimate ProArts Playhouse is located at the Azeka (Makai) Shopping Center, 1280 S. Kihei Rd. in Kihei. The Playhouse is air conditioned with 80 reserved seats. There is free parking, plenty of nearby restaurants, and an art gallery inside currently featuring the art of Marjorie Tyler and others.

"Social Security" contains adult content.
