ProArts is proud to present "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as part of its Fall/Winter season of family friendly shows at the recently re-opened ProArts Playhouse in Kihei.
Adapted by Jonathan Lehman from the beloved story by L. Frank Baum, it is the story of Dorothy Gale from Kansas and her magical journey to the merry old land of Oz. She travels to the Emerald City where the great wizard lives. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who desperately needs courage. With the help of the Good Witch of the North, they all hope the Wizard of Oz can help before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" features twelve talented Maui performers: Tyler Charbonneau as Dorothy, Dale Button as the Scarecrow, Joseph Duncan as the Tin Man, Bill Schnitzer as the Cowardly Lion, Laurel Sherwood as Glinda the Good Witch, Kalani Whitford as The Wicked Witch of the West, Joel Agnew as The Wizard, Laura Bloom Farber as Aunt Em, and the Munchkins/Winkies: Jett Batoon, Isaac Rauch, Lana Canton and James Natividad.
The show is directed by Jonathan Lehman with musical direction by Marti Kluth. Caro Walker designed the Emerald City scenery, with colorful costumes Kathleen Schulz, and lighting design by Bonnie Prucha. ProArts is co-produced by Doug Kendrick and Jonathan Lehman.
Opening night is November 5 and the show plays weekends through November 21; Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 4:00pm, and Sundays at 1:00 and 4:00pm. There will be no performances on November 7.
