Kumu Kahua Theatre is offering a free one-day playwriting workshop Saturday, June 8, 10am to 5pm.
The workshop, offered to writers of all levels, will focus on two aspects of playwriting: writing scenes with Subtext and introducing Dramatic Irony to writing.
The workshop will be lead by Honolulu Theatre for Youth Director of Drama Education Daniel Kelin II and Kumu Kahua Theatre Artistic Director Harry Wong. Instruction will tailored for each writer's level of experience.
Attendees will be given an introduction to Subtext and Dramatic Irony, and will write scenes exploring these important aspects of playwriting.
Experienced actors will be available throughout the day to read the writer's work as it is developed. Writers will benefit from hearing their scripts read by the actors. Actors and workshop leaders will offer feedback to the writers throughout the process.
The day will end with actors performing stage-readings of all the scenes.
Participants may bring their own lunch, or purchase at nearby downtown restaurants.
Call the Kumu Kahua Theatre office: 536-4222 10am-5pm, Monday-Friday, or email kumukahuatheatre@hawaiiantel.net with questions and to reserve a space in the workshop.
