OEDIPUS REX Plays Athiniais Theatre Athens Every Thursday From May 30 to Sept. 26 ImageThe Fimonoi Theater Group will present Oedipus Rex at Athiniais Theatre Athens every Thursday from May 30- Sept. 26.

Oedipus Rex tells the story of Oedipus and how he fulfilled a fatal prophecy. When Oedipus was born, his father King Laius of Thebes learned that he would die at the hand of his son, so he ordered his wife Jocasta to kill the child. Neither Jocasta nor her servant could go through with this task, so they abandoned the child instead.

King Polybus of Corinth raises Oedipus since he does not have any children of his own. Although there were rumors about Oedipus's birth parents, he believes it was the King and Queen of Corinth. When he consults an oracle, and receives the prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother, Oedipus leaves Corinth, only to unknowingly come in contact with his birth parents.

The play will include English and French subtitles for non-Greek speakers.
