Wake up and dream - Ein Cole-Porter-Songbook (UA) at Nationaltheater Mannheim

He appeared to have it all: a society sunny boy, enjoying successes on Broadway as well as in Hollywood, and had an enchanting woman by his side - his longtime love. Cole Porter was one of the most important song writers of his time. Success also had many other partners. and while Cole was basking in the intoxication of his life, his wife Linda tried with all of her dedication to keep together their relationship. The man who in his music could understand and capture love so ingeniously, so symapthetically and with such wit, in reality apperared to her to be incapable of expressing it.

During his lifetime, Cole Albert Porter, as he was known by his full name, wrote forty stage works. Shows such as Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes, High Society, Can-Can, or Silk Stockings (Ninotschka) are still celebrated worldwide today.

Many of his songs such as Night and Day, True Love and I’ve Got You Under My Skin have become classic standards through interpretations by entertainment and music legends such as Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. The revue Wake Up and Dream was created for the Nationaltheater Mannheim and dedicated to the life of Cole Porter, his successes and failures, as well as his immortal songs which will be heard in new arrangements to be rediscovered and appreciated again.
