"The loneliness is nothing but the surface of the exit-being. This creates deeper wounds, invisible, traces of which have lost. This cry can awaken such a catastrophe in all of us, in every moment "
(Salvatore Sciarrino)
The venue of Sciarrino's new music theater
for a lyrical novel by Elizabeth Smart is a big station. A place of collective streams and hikes, the Ineinanders of mass and isolation. A place increased noise, a reservoir for the homeless. The protagonist is a woman who seems lost and homeless, and a painful sleepless night experienced: She speaks in riddles, remains unheard or misunderstood, we only see fragments of its history and its encounters.
Salvatore Sciarrino is one of the contemporary composers who have contributed significantly to the renewal of musical theater in our time. His distinctive musical language, often scanning the boundaries of sound, combined with a new dramaturgy. Whispering sounds and vocal indications ensue rather internal than external stories. The fragmentary, Hesitant, sometimes timeless Pending replaced superficial theatricality and action. The Suppressed seems more important than what is expressed, the hint important than the apparently obvious. So encircle his music theater works, form the textual basis for the numerous literary sources, often invisible or nameless, the inner space
and the frozen feeling. Sciarrino's music theater draws our attention.
