Michelle throws her roommate Sofie out of their shared apartment. Earlier they were best friends and Sophie loved Michelle’s brother Gerald. Now they argue over work for the feminine film club and the purpose of political action. Michelle is a scientist who develops data glasses which can solve perception problems, and she has tested them on her brother Gerald, an unsuccessful writer. Sophie creates art in jails. With the women from the prison she is working on a project, behind which is hidden a personal plan of revenge against the prison director. When Michelle’s data glasses fall into Sophie’s hands, the art project turns into a prison revolt.
Colour Blind Work is about »art in prison, art as a prison, and both as a metaphor for how people both privately as well as publicly have finally lost every chance for freedom« (D. Dath) and about the question if the difference between creative industries, art business, prison, and the normal production of goods has become already so vague that we can no longer understand under what terms and conditions we live and work.
Dietmar Dath, born in 1970, has had many novels, non-fiction books, theater works and stories published. Recently appeared his non-fiction book Der Implex (2012) written together with Barbara Kirchner, and Feldeváye – Novel of the Last Arts (2014). Farbenblinde Arbeit is his second theater work for Mannheim after Regina oder Die Eichhörnchenküsse (2011) (Regina, or The Unicorn Kisses).
Robert Teufel, who has already directed Dantons Tod (Danton’s Death), wohnen. unter glas (living. under glass) and Brilliant Adventures for the Nationaltheater, will stage this work’s world premiere.
