In the legendary land of Nangijala, Krümel is finally liberated from his bow-legs and permanent cough, and only his timidness is still stuck in his bones. There in the cherry valley he is known to everyone as Karl, and as the brother of Jonathan, he is warmly welcome. He has to put his freshly gained powers to the test quicker than he would like, because Nangijala consists not only of the free Cherry Valley. Karl follows his brother Jonathan into battle against the tyrant Tengil, who rules the neighbouring Thorn Rose Valley with fear and terror. In the struggle for freedom and peace, the Lionheart brothers eventually even have to fight with the primeval dragon, Katla. Krümel soon surpasses himself with every adventure until Karl Lionheart is celebrated as the »saviour of the Thorn Rose Valley«.
Astrid Lindgren (1907?-?2002) is the most well-known children's book writer in the world. In all of her more than 70 books she always took the needs and desires of children seriously, and she took just as seriously their enjoyment of fantastic dreams and games. Her literary heroes are self-confident, brave, creative, empathetic, caring, headstrong, opinionated and fabulously strong. Her stories are always about »being a person« and even today her utopia of a better life together and a more caring world is up to date.
Marcelo Diaz has been familiar to the Mannheim audience for a while now as a master of poetic family comedy. Here he recently directed Das Lied von Rama and Der Teufel mit den drei goldenen Haaren.
