Body & Language (UA) at Nationaltheater Mannheim

This cooperation is a reunion: in 2006 at the Nationaltheater, Lukáš Timulak showed an extremely concentrated Mini-Choreography as part of the ballet performance collage Entre Deux. Lukáš Timulak – at that time a young choreographer and dancer in the well-known Nederlands Dans Theater was an absolute insider tip – has in the meantime strongly established himself as one of most important people in the international dance scene with works for his home company the NDT, the Slovakian National Theater, the Göteborg Ballet and the Lucerne Theater. Already in 2006 he demonstrated with his shadow duet in front of a video screen a special instinct for the succinctness and expression of small, dancelike movements.

Lukáš Timulak puts the dancers in the foreground: strong but fluid movements with quick changes and a distinctive feeling for space characterize his choreography. Together with his longtime artistic partner, graphic designer and video artist Peter Bi’lak, he explores the stage as a playing field upon which constantly new arrangements interchange with one another. Together they create works full of contrast between lightness and seriousness, tension and relaxation, simplicity and technological complexity.
