After supernova (wie gold entsteht), Philipp Löhle, the resident author of the past season, is writing another work commissioned by the Nationaltheater Mannheim. As in his other plays, Philipp Löhle has also managed with supernova (wie gold entsteht) to achieve what his figure Norbert from his play Genannt Gospodin only alleges: »I have really captured our times and our problems.« Philipp Löhle writes plays that are case studies of problems of our time, individual cases which by example describe the full picture, the system, in which both Löhle’s figures and ourselves seem to be caught up. In his plays he writes about capitalism, environmental destruction and its consequences and about how the individual tries to find his place, his niche in the system, and hold on to this. Never pointing a moral finger in doing this, but formulating social criticism with the means of comedy makes Philipp Löhle one of the »most successful and interesting playwrights of the present day« (Theater der Zeit). His plays are now performed in theatres all over Germany. They have been or are being performed at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, the Münchner Volkstheater, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Schauspiel Bonn, the Schauspiel Essen and many other theatres. Look forward with us to Philipp Löhle’s new play! It will be directed by Katrin Lindner, who staged the world première of Philipp Löhle’s Kaufland at the Theater Erlangen. She directed Neil LaBute’s Some Girls and Dennis Kelly’s After the end at the Schauspielhaus Bochum . This was followed by plays directed at the Landestheater Neuss, in Wuppertal, at the Theater Lübeck, at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and at the Bochum off-theatre, Rottstr. 5. For her interpretation there of Gefährlichen Liebschaften, Katrin Lindner was named the best young director in the 2011 NRW critics’ poll by the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
