The Off Broadway Palm Theatre presents The Nerd playing now through November 12, 2016. The Nerd is a hilarious comedy written by American actor/playwright Larry Shue. It was the highest grossing American play in London's West End in 1986 and played on Broadway in the late 1990s.
Willum has frequently told his friends about Rick, a fellow-ex-GI whom he's never met, but who saved his life in Vietnam. Throughout the years, the two exchanged letters and in those, Willum promised Rick that he would be there for him anytime. To Willum's delight, Rick shows up for a surprise visit, but turns out to be a hopeless "nerd" - a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence and even less tact. To make matters worse, Rick overstays his welcome and his continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident after another.
Directing The Nerd is former Southwest Florida resident Rachael Endrizzi. Appearing as Willum is Alexander Mrazek and appearing as Rick is James Putnam; both making their debuts with Broadway Palm. Other cast members include Dale Given, Kelly Legarreta, Mindy Montavon and Michael Weaver. Two local children, Kaiden Dick and Nicholas Salerno, are double-cast as the role of Thor.
