The Naples Players Present WHAT HAPPENS IN THE THEATRE One Night Of One Acts

The Naples Players (TNP), the oldest and premier theatre in Naples, celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. TNP's ETC Readers Theatre presents "What Happens in the Theatre", an evening of original one-act plays, on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Tobye Studio Theatre. An evening of one acts that gives a behind-the-scenes look at life in the theatre and all the hijinks that goes with it.

One Acts to be presented:

· Impromptu, written by Tad Mosel, brings together four unsuspecting actors who are repeatedly assigned to the same type of role. Each one has become increasingly consumed by the people they pretend to be. They're put on stage in front of an audience and told to improvise a play that reveals their true selves. The "drama" which unfolds is a mixture of truth, fantasy and well-rehearsed situations, but out of it, in subtle progression, comes a deepening awareness of the real people behind the theatrical facades. The playwright, Tad Mosel, was an American playwright and one of the leading dramatists of hour-long teleplay genre for live television during the 1950s. He received the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play All the Way Home.

· Biff & Blanche, written by John Twomey, presents two second-rate thespians, Biff and Blanche, who compete for a cab on a street in New York City. While waiting on a bench, they spar over an audition and confront one another with their illusions about themselves, their careers and their attraction to one another-complicated by the fact that they had a brief encounter in the past. The playwright, John Twomey, has local ties, and his full-length play All My Raisins in the Son won Theatre Conspiracy's 2013 New Play Competition and was also the winner at the 2013 Neil Simon Festival.

· Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson, written by Richard Orloff, follows an instructor who lectures on the craft of playwriting, using two live examples: a would-be jumper on the edge of a ledge, and a would-be Good Samaritan trying to save him. But after being paused and replayed one too many times, these two characters rise up and revolt against both the instructor and the rules of playwriting itself. The playwright was highlighted last season in The Naples Players' One-Act Play Festival and is known for his sharp comedic writing.

· Rambles on the Radio, written by Robert Scott, tells the story of Christopher who is delighted to be performing his play on the radio with his daughter in a starring role, but others are less content with the casting. Worse still, there's more drama behind the microphone than is going out over the air. Robert Scott is an award-winning British playwright selling in 29 countries worldwide.
