Gulfshore Playhouse Starts Off 2018-19 Season With AN ILIAD Image

Gulfshore Playhouse, Naples' premiere professional regional theater, will kick off the 2018-19 season with "An Iliad," by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare, running Oct. 20 through Nov. 4.

Passed down from the campfires of Ancient Greece comes a modern retelling of Homer's soaring epic. Featuring a virtuosic one-man performance, an embattled storyteller grapples with The Iliad's timeless tale of the horrors and heroism of war. With intimacy and immediacy, this strikingly theatrical experience will shine a light on how Homer's poem rings true today.

Starring Broadway veteran and Gulfshore Playhouse Associate Artistic Director, Jeffrey Binder brings to life the stories of Achilles, Hector and Agamemnon in this reimagined adaptation that will resonate with today's modern audiences. ?

Binder's New York credits include 10 years as Zazu in "The Lion King" and George Banks in the hit musical "Mary Poppins," both performed at the New Amsterdam Theater on 42nd Street. Binder has also appeared in numerous Gulfshore Playhouse productions, including "The Mystery of Irma Vep," "Merchant of Venice," "Hound of the Baskervilles," "My Fair Lady," "An Enemy of the People," and more.

"An Iliad" is directed by Gulfshore Playhouse's Founder and Producing Artistic Director, Kristen Coury, named earlier this year as a Leading Lady by Naples Illustrated. Production staff includes Stage Manager Emily Hauger; New York Casting Director Michael Cassara; Vocal Coach John Patrick; Costume Designer Jennifer Bronsted; Lighting Designer Jimmy Lawlor; Scenic Designer David L. Arsenault.; and Sound Designer Beth Lake.

Evening shows begin at 8 p.m.; matinees begin at 3 p.m. Show subscriptions are available and include priority seating, exclusive events and discounted pricing. Tickets range from $20-$65; all tickets are $32 two hours before a performance. For purchase information, visit www.GulfshorePlayhouse.org or contact 866-811-4111.

Gulfshore Playhouse is passionately committed to enriching the cultural landscape of our region by producing professional theatre to the highest artistic standards and providing unique educational opportunities to diverse groups of people in a spirit of service, adventure and excitement. The Playhouse's work is inspired by a belief in the magic of theatre to expand the imagination, challenge the senses, provoke discussion, and revitalize in our audience an understanding of our common humanity. This belief drives the care with which we treat our artists, audiences, students, staff, and members of the greater community.

This focus is also at the core of its newest endeavor - the creation of a cultural landmark facility in downtown Naples. Plans are currently underway for the new Gulfshore Playhouse Theatre and Education Center at Goodlette-Frank Road and First Avenue South that will include two theaters and an education wing to support programming for children, adults and families.
