Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the extension of "Becoming Dr. Ruth" by Mark St. Germain through Oct. 28 in the ArtStage Studio Theatre. Originally slated to close October 21, the moving comedy stars Broadway and regional theatre veteran, Susan Greenhill in the title role.

"Becoming Dr. Ruth" bis harrowing true story of how a little girl fled the Nazis to become one of the most empowering voices of the 20th century. Ensemble member Chris Clavelli directs Susan Greenhilli in the production. Greenhill is no stranger to the role, having appeared as Dr. Ruth at Studio Theatre in Sarasota and the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. Playwright Mark St. Germain's other work includes past Florida Rep hits, "Best of Enemies," last season's world premiere, "George Washington's Teeth," and the first play to be performed in the new ArtStage Studio Theatre, "Camping with Henry and Tom."

The comedy opened in September to a sold-out house and was followed by a talk back with director Chris Clavelli, Susan Greenhill, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer herself. Westheimer visited Fort Myers to see the production and enjoyed the show thoroughly. Florida Weekly's Nancy Stetson said, "the famous sex therapist, now 90 and not even thinking of retiring, attended the show opening night and, in a rollicking talkback that lasted almost as long as the show itself, gave it her seal of approval."

Charles Runnells told News-Press reader that Florida Rep's season opener "is an inspiring, often hilarious story of survival and family. And it sheds light on an American icon who, it turns out, is much more than just sex."
