The Florida Repertory Company presents August Wilson's FENCES, running Jan. 8 to Jan. 30.
Fences is one of the great 20th century American dramas, and winner of the New York Drama Critics' Award, two Tony Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize. Troy Maxson was once a gifted athlete but was denied his shot at the big time because a black man wasn't allowed to play in the major leagues. Struggling as a sanitation worker in Pittsburgh and resentful of a world he believes denied him chances at every turn, he directs his anger at his loyal wife, Rose, and a son whose dreams of football stardom fuel a bitter feud. Set between the Korean and Vietnam wars, Fences is the story of an American family trying to hold itself together and of what happens when a man is robbed of his dreams.
