Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is thrilled to be sponsoring Up With People when their international cast arrives in Fort Myers, the first stop on their 2013 world tour. Up With People is a global education and service program focused on bringing the world together through service and music. The international cast of 120 students from 20 countries is traveling to Fort Myers on February 11, 2013 for a one week stay. During their time in the area they will live with local host families, volunteer in the local community and perform two international shows at North Fort Myers High School on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
In addition to Broadway Palm's sponsorship, they are also trying to assist the group by reaching out to members of the community in hopes to find host families. Up with People is looking for homes for 120 cast members from February 11 through February 18. It's simple and FUN! All that host families need to provide is a place to sleep, breakfast and dinner and limited transportation in the morning and evening. In exchange for hosting the families will receive two complimentary tickets to the new Up With People Show: "Voices". The opportunity to stay with local families during their stay in each country is a centerpiece of Up with People's 22-week program. The giving goes both ways; while families share their traditions and local attractions, the cast members also share their experiences and cultures. "I can honestly say that the dozens of families who have opened their homes to me during my time in Up with People is one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences I have had," said Lorna Murphy. "I still stay in contact with many of them, and I believe they will remain lifelong friends," she added.
Local families in the Fort Myers area are being sought to host the cast members from February 11 through February18, 2013. Those interested in hosting are encouraged to contact Lorna Murphy on the Advance Team at lmurphy@upwithpeople.org or by calling 303.681.1295. Up With People's "Voices" will be held at North Fort Myers High School on Sunday, February 17 at 2pm and 6pm. Ticket information can be found at www.upwithpeople.org/FortMyers.
