Following their last tour in 2011, the prestigious Bolshoi Theatre Ballet has again been invited to perform at the Palais Garnier. They return this season with a creation by Alexei Ratmansky: Lost Illusions, based on the novel by Balzac. First performed in Moscow in 2011 to a score by Leonid Desyatnikov, it is being presented for the first time in France. The choreographer’s neoclassical language stands out in this great narrative ballet with a French flavour and with dramaturgy reworked by Guillaume Gallienne. The sets and costumes are by Jérôme Kaplan. The story is set in the Paris and the Opera of the 19th century. In this grand story of thwarted love, ambition and disillusionment, the Bolshoi Theatre dancers reveal their talents and the choreographer, another facet of his work.
