About the Cesar Awards:

The Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma together with Canal Plus will organise the of the César Award Ceremony in the presence of all the nominees at the Théâtre du Châtelet
Presented by a Master of Ceremonies, chaired by a well-known personality from French or international cinema, and attended by the Minister of Culture and Communication, it is broadcast live and unencoded exclusively by Canal Plus in the broadcast "La Nuit des César", watched each year by millions of viewers.
The evening is opened by the Ceremony Chairman, whose sole obligation is to end his speech with the much anticipated sentence "I declare the Césars Ceremony open". Then the invited artists (the presenters) are called onto the stage one by one by the Master of Ceremonies. Just before they go on stage, the usher hands them the sealed envelopes containing the results, which are kept secret till that moment. Their task is to open the envelopes before the live audience, and announce to them and the TV viewers the names of the winners in the 21 categories.
This major gathering to celebrate the cinema, attended by the whole profession, is also the occasion for the award of an honorary César to an emblematic personality from French or international cinema.
Lastly, each year a minute of silence is observed in tribute to the professionals of French cinema who have died in the previous year, while their names scroll up the theatre's giant screen.

After the Ceremony, nominees and winners are invited to a Gala Dinner at Fouquet's, followed by "La Party", to carry on the César festivities until the early hours!
