From hundreds of applications nationwide, 40 finalists from 19 states have been selected to participate in this year's Songbook Academy summer intensive, the leading youth music program focused on the timeless standards of jazz, pop, Broadway and Hollywood.

A real-life mysterious island in Nova Scotia is the setting for a brand new musical opening May 27, developed entirely by Indianapolis writers. Joe Barsanti and Brandi Underwood first began work on 'Oak Island: A New Musical' in 2016. Six years, several workshops, a concert version, and one pandemic later; the story of a family reckoning with buried treasures and resentments will finally be open for all to see.

The New Harmony Project, an organization dedicated to supporting writers interrogating the complexity of hope, has announced that they will continue in-person programming with their 35th annual spring conference in idyllic New Harmony, Indiana.

Harvey Cocks Jr. has taken his final bow and left the stage. Harvey may not have been “born in a trunk,” as the saying goes, but as the scion of a theatrical family, he did sleep in one as a baby.  He was born April 3, 1925 in Glen Cove, Long Island. 

Betty Rage Productions presents a sketch comedy show, “Indiana Night Live!” It's just like Saturday Night Live, but better, because it's local. The show will feature original sketches, hilarious actors, and the musical stylings of in-house band, The King's Paige and the Fanny Packs. Indiana Funniest Comic 2021 finalist, Gwen Sunkel, will host the show.

The first Writers Retreat of 2022 will take place from May 12th through May 23rd. The new musical has book, lyrics, and music by Zack Zadek and is untitled. He will be joined by Forbes 30 Under 30 director Sammi Cannold, who is also a conceiver on the piece.

The January concert is a celebration of works from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. We’ll hear Mendelssohn’s melodic Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave), inspired by an 1829 trip to a Scottish island, followed by Mozart’s delightful Symphony No. 8, which he composed about a month before his 13th birthday.
