Gaslight Playhouse Inc. Announces 2019 Season Image

Gaslight Playhouse Inc. has announced their 2019 season. Gaslight, established in 1975, is entering their 44th year entertaining audiences in Noble County.

Gaslight President, Kim McCutchan, announced next year's shows at their annual Christmas Spectacular. "When we announced the season, the audience was excited with our choices based on their verbal reactions" she said.

Their upcoming season consists of a family theatre production, a musical revue, a comedy, a drama; and two events, their annual Children's Theatre Workshop, and their Christmas Spectacular.

Their season opens with the family friendly show, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Voice of the Prairie on March 8, 9, & 10. Based off the hit series, Little House on the Prairie, this show offers new adventures of the beloved characters. "We hope that this will be a show that all members of the family will come and enjoy," says board member, Bonnie Koontz. These auditions will be announced soon.

Following the Family Theatre production Gaslight will present a Musical Revue on July 26, 27, & 28, directed by Josh Ogle. "We had a great success in 2018 with our Rodgers & Hammerstein revue. I think this year will be bigger and better" said Ogle. "I cannot say what the musical revue is quite yet, but I can tell you that it will be magical and take you through some of our favorite childhood movies through its music. It's music we all know and love, and it spans over many generations!"

Their comedy, presented on August 9, 10, & 11, will be the hilarious show, Caught in the Net. This is the sequel to Gaslight's sold out 2018 comedy, "Run for Your Wife." Lydia Tremaine, Jenna Boese, Andrew Canaveral, and Josh Ogle will reprise their comedic roles from Run. "I am excited to get to work with the same, talented cast that I had the privilege to last season. You do NOT need to have seen the first show to enjoy this sequel. The cast and I are looking forward to telling the rest of the hilarious story of these crazy characters" said director, LeeAnn DePew. "We suggest getting your tickets early for this show, so you don't get caught without a seat as we anticipate another sell out as the main characters return for this show and will offer more laughs and a great evening out." President McCutchan added.

Gaslight's fall drama is Ken Ludwig's The Game's Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays. Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it's up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim. This will be presented on November 8, 9, & 10.

Their season also includes two events!

The first Gaslight event is their annual Children's Theatre Workshop. The CTW is an educational program that introduces kids to the theatre. They learn the audition process, the parts of the theatre, the rehearsal process, and perform the final production. The program, led by longtime director, Jo Drudge, is presenting, The Wizard of Oz. Drudge who has been the head director and worked with hundreds of kids for the last 30+ years will be retiring from the program after this Summer. "I have always said that my 'swan song' will be the Wizard of Oz and this year just seems like the right year to do it" said Drudge. "Our program always has a lot of interested kids looking to do a musical over the summer break. Wizard of Oz should draw an even bigger group as it is a much-loved show and workshop director, Jo Drudge's favorite" says President McCutchan. Nicole and Jenna Boese are already on the scene to take on the direction of the CTW program and will be shadowing Jo for her final year. The Wizard of Oz will be presented on June 28, & 29 at the Cole Auditorium.

The second event is their annual Christmas Spectacular. Started in 2017, Gaslight Playhouse presents a variety show to salute the Holiday season and get people into the spirit of the season! The Christmas Spectacular will be presented on December 13, 14, & 15.

"Our season has a great variety. It is something that people of all ages can enjoy! Gaslight has been a huge part of people's lives for generations, and it has certainly impacted mine in many ways. I am personally looking forward to seeing the enjoyment of community in 2019 because of this theatre organization." says the Gaslight Playhouse Board of Directors.

"Season tickets are available and make great gifts for the holidays. Some volunteer director spots are also still available for anyone interested in directing one of next year's shows. All auditions are open and will be posted on our social media as the dates get closer" said McCutchan.
