The 2025 San Francisco Fringe Festival will take place from August 8 to August 24 at the Taylor Street Theatre in downtown San Francisco. The festival is open to all artists and performances are selected randomly by lottery, with no censorship or curation. This marks the 34th annual edition of the festival, produced by EXIT Theatre. The festival provides a platform for independent, experimental, and boundary-pushing performances in an accessible and artist-driven environment.
Each participating company is responsible for all aspects of their production, while the festival provides the venue, box office support, and technicians. Artists retain full creative control over their work, making the San Francisco Fringe Festival a truly independent and artist-centered event.
Applications to perform in the 2025 San Francisco Fringe Festival are open until March 31, 2025 and can be submitted online at EXIT Theatre’s website.
Performances must be 60 minutes or less and will be scheduled on Friday evenings, as well as all day on Saturdays and Sundays. Each group will receive a 2.5-hour tech rehearsal between July 31 and August 7, 2025. Out-of-town performers will receive tech slots closest to the festival dates.
Artists are responsible for securing the rights to their performances and must comply with all local laws and festival policies. The festival does not provide projectors, screens, computers, or microphones unless specifically noted.
Artists keep 100% of their ticket revenue. Performing companies can set their ticket prices at up to $15 per ticket and will receive the full amount. A limited number of discounted tickets are available, and artists will receive $9 for each redeemed discounted ticket. The festival provides online and in-person ticket sales, box office support, and payment processing.
There is a non-refundable $20 application fee to enter the lottery. If selected, artists must pay a $450 performance fee, which covers the cost of venue rental, three performances in the festival, box office services, and technical support.
All ticket revenue will be paid to artists by check by September 9, 2025. Artists must provide a W-9 form for tax purposes. A 1099 form will be issued at the end of the year if required by federal regulations.
The San Francisco Fringe Festival relies on volunteers to help make the event possible. Volunteers assist with ushering, box office operations, technical support, and general event coordination. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring a smooth experience for both artists and audiences.
