About

The Hollywood Fringe Festival (HFF) is an open-access, self-produced performing arts festival that provides a platform for emerging, experimental, and underrepresented artists. Since its inception, HFF has served as a training ground for artists to become producers while fostering a thriving creative community. The festival celebrates freedom of expression and artistic collaboration, welcoming thousands of artists from Los Angeles and beyond.

HFF was created to address the need for a cohesive performing arts community in Los Angeles. Today, it continues to provide opportunities for artists to develop and showcase their work, activate local neighborhoods, and contribute to the city’s cultural and economic growth. Participants are responsible for producing, promoting, and staging their own work, with guidance from the Fringe team. The festival takes place in Hollywood venues, with the option to livestream performances to reach wider audiences.

Submission Requirements

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an open-access event, meaning anyone who meets the basic qualifications can participate. The application process consists of three steps:

  1. Create Your Project – Artists can post their project idea on the HFF website for free to attract interest and collaborators.
  2. Apply to a Venue – Performers must secure a performance space within the designated Fringe Zone by applying to one of the participating venues or registering their own venue.
  3. Register with Fringe – Official registration opens on February 1, 2025. Once artists complete this step, they gain access to the festival’s marketing, ticketing, and support services.

Registration fees vary by project type:

  • $300 for paid/ticketed and multi-performance shows
  • $175 for free shows
  • $50 for workshops and educational events (free if registering an additional show)

Artists are responsible for booking their own venue, which may involve additional costs. If a participant registers but is unable to secure a venue, their registration can be rolled over to the next year or refunded upon request before April 1, 2025.

Finances

HFF aims to keep costs low while ensuring artists benefit from their participation. Ticket sales are processed through the Fringe box office, with 50% of tickets required to be sold through the festival’s platform. Performers can sell the remaining tickets through an external platform of their choice or use Fringe’s system exclusively.

The festival does not guarantee audience attendance but provides extensive marketing, including festival-wide promotions, printed guides, digital listings, press assistance, and discounted advertising opportunities. Registered artists also receive a dedicated, customizable page on the Fringe website.
