The New York City Fringe Festival is FRIGID’s largest festival, featuring 60 productions across four venues in 2025: Under St Marks and Wild Project in the East Village, The Chain Mainstage and Studio in Midtown, and The Rat NYC in Dumbo. Running from April 2 to April 20, the festival showcases a diverse lineup of performances, including plays, comedy, musicals, storytelling, improv, dance, and clowning. NYC Fringe is an unjuried festival, welcoming both emerging and established artists.
Each show is limited to 60 minutes or less, and performances take place in intimate venues across the city. The festival aims to provide an accessible, vibrant space for independent artists while maintaining safety and logistical guidelines outlined in the festival handbook.
Applications for the 2025 NYC Fringe Festival opened on September 2, 2024, at 12:00 PM EDT and will close on October 30, 2024, at 11:59 PM EDT. The festival follows a combination of first-come-first-served and lottery-based selection. The first seven applications received for each venue are automatically accepted, with the remaining slots determined by lottery. Each venue will host 15 shows, with a total of 60 productions across all locations.
Artists may only submit one show, and any additional submissions will be discarded. The festival is open to all performance genres, with the exception of works that violate safety policies (e.g., open flames) or venue regulations. Before applying, artists must review the festival handbook, which outlines all technical specifications, space usage, and festival policies. A non-refundable $40 application fee is required upon submission.
The NYC Fringe Festival strives to be an affordable platform for independent artists. The application fee is $40 per production and is non-refundable. Artists are responsible for their own production costs, including rehearsal space, props, and technical needs. Performers receive a portion of their box office revenue based on ticket sales, with specific payout details outlined in the festival handbook.
NYC Fringe relies on a dedicated team of volunteers to help keep the festival running smoothly. Volunteers assist with ushering, crowd control, box office support, merchandise sales, and other showtime tasks. Shifts range from 2-3 hours, and volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
In return for their time, volunteers receive exciting perks:
All volunteers must attend an in-person training session and commit to at least 8 hours of volunteering. Those interested can sign up via the official volunteer form or contact boxoffice@frigid.nyc for more information.
