About

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the largest multidisciplinary arts festival in the world, taking place annually in Scotland's capital. The festival is open access, meaning there is no central selection process—anyone with a venue can register and take part. With thousands of shows across hundreds of venues, the festival is a key event in the global arts calendar, featuring theater, comedy, dance, music, circus, cabaret, spoken word, and more.

Submission Requirements

  • Secure a Venue

    • Artists must have a confirmed contract with a registered Edinburgh Fringe venue before applying.

    • The Fringe Society does not assign venues—artists must negotiate directly with venue operators.

    • The Venue Search Tool and Venue Handbook can assist in finding available slots.

  • Register the Show

    • Once a venue is secured, artists register via EdFringeware, the Fringe’s online portal.

    • Registration is open until April 9, 2025, for inclusion in the printed program.

    • After this deadline, shows can still register for web-only listings.

  • Key Deadlines

    • March 5, 2025: Early-bird discount deadline for registration.

    • April 9, 2025: Final deadline for inclusion in the printed program.

    • June 2025: Registration reopens for web-only listings.

  • Marketing & Promotion

    • Shows are listed in the official Fringe program, website, and app.

    • Additional promotion opportunities include the Half Price Hut, Fringe Friends discounts, and media outreach.

Finances

  • Registration Fees

    • Limited run (1-2 performances): £96.00 (£80.00 excluding VAT)

    • Limited run (3-5 performances): £204.00 (£170.00 excluding VAT)

    • Full run (6+ performances): Discount rate £295.20 (£246.00 excluding VAT) if registered by early-bird deadline; standard rate £393.60 (£328.00 excluding VAT).

    • Summer rate (26 May onwards, web listing only): £295.20 (£246.00 excluding VAT).

  • Box Office Revenue

    • Artists set their own ticket prices and receive 100% of face-value ticket sales (minus applicable commissions).

    • The Fringe Box Office takes a 5% + VAT administrative commission on sales.

    • Payment Schedule: Revenue from ticket sales is paid after the festival, typically by early October.

    • Shows can opt into discount schemes such as 2-for-1 tickets, Fringe Friends discounts, and the Half Price Hut for additional exposure.

  • Additional Costs

    • Venues may charge rental fees, take a box office percentage, or have costs for technical support.

    • Some venues offer revenue-sharing models instead of flat rental fees.

    • Marketing Costs: The Fringe Society provides a listing in the printed program, but artists are responsible for their own advertising and promotion.
