About

The Atlanta Fringe Festival is an unjuried, lottery-based festival that welcomes artists of all backgrounds, disciplines, and experience levels. By eliminating a traditional selection process, the festival ensures a diverse and inclusive lineup, making it accessible to both emerging and established performers. With low submission and production fees, artists from all economic backgrounds can participate without financial barriers.

Held in the first week of June, the festival guarantees selected artists four performances and one technical rehearsal in fully equipped venues near festival headquarters in East Atlanta. Each space is staffed with professional technicians and front-of-house workers, allowing artists to focus solely on their performances. Beyond the mainstage lineup, Atlanta Fringe hosts special events such as the Five/5ths fundraising show, a free preview night with 3-minute excerpts from each production, late-night showcases, afterparties, and Kid’s Fringe activities designed for families. In 2024, the festival expanded to include Street Fringe, featuring buskers performing throughout the weekend near festival headquarters.

Produced by Twinhead Theatre, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the festival is managed by a dedicated core committee of 10 volunteers, with additional support from event volunteers, paid festival technicians, and front-of-house staff. The mission of the Atlanta Fringe Festival is to connect adventurous artists with appreciative audiences, enriching Atlanta’s arts community.

Submission Requirements

The Atlanta Fringe Festival operates on an unjuried lottery system, meaning all applicants have an equal chance of being selected. The open submission period typically runs through December and January. Once applications close, artists are chosen at random, ensuring a fair and diverse selection process.

Once selected, artists are guaranteed four performances and one technical rehearsal in one of the festival’s fully equipped venues, all located within easy walking or driving distance of festival headquarters. Each venue is staffed with professional technicians and front-of-house workers, allowing artists to focus on their performances without worrying about logistics.

In addition to mainstage performances, selected artists may also participate in the festival’s special events, including the preview night, Five/5ths fundraising performance, and various community engagement activities. Atlanta Fringe is committed to making participation as accessible and rewarding as possible, providing professional photos of performances to help artists promote their work beyond the festival.

Finances

Artists keep 100% of their box office earnings after minimal fees, with the festival taking no portion of ticket sales. Additionally, performers are eligible for cash prizes through audience-voted awards for both large and small cast productions, as well as Critic’s Choice and Producer’s Choice awards. All participating artists also receive professional photographs of their performances to help with future promotion.
