Sheyenne High School (SHS) Theatre jump starts the area high school theatre season with its production of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin. This Tony Award-winning musical will play five performances in the SHS Black Box Theatre, October 6 & 7 at 7:30pm, October 8 at 1:00pm and 7:30pm, and October 9 at 2:30pm.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents (and four guest spellers) vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Ten spellers enter the bee, but only one speller leaves! The losers get a juice box, a hug, and the satisfaction of a well-attempted (though futile) effort.

The 1:00pm performance on Saturday, October 8th will play host to New York City theatre critic and columnist, Peter Filichia. Mr. Filichia is attending the production as part of his goal to witness theatre in all 50 states; North Dakota is the final state of his mission. His Sheyenne Theatre SPELLING BEE experience will likely serve as a future column for the theatrical licensing agency, Music Theatre International.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE features approximately 20 young artists in cast, crew, and pit orchestra positions. These advanced students have also been responsible for many of the show's design and production responsibilities while mentored by a team of professionals and educators led by veteran theatre director, Adam Pankow. This production was chosen as a compliment to the SHS mainstage offering this November, CHARLOTTE'S WEB, and serves as a fundraiser for Sheyenne Theatre's participation in the 2017 American High School Theatre Festival held each August in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Tickets can be purchased at the door beginning one hour before performances. All seats are general admission and priced $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for students. Seating will be limited.
