Review: MOON OVER BUFFALO at West Fargo High School Image

Moon Over Buffalo is a 1995 play by Ken Ludwig that marked the return to Broadway for Carol Burnett after a 30 year absence. This is a funny, family friendly play that is sure to bring laughter to the whole audience. The story focuses on the Hay family in the 1950's who are stage legends. It's a small but powerful cast, with many faces that local theatre lovers will recognize.

One of my favorite characters, and one of the funniest, was Ethel portrayed by MaTia Martin. Every scene she is in had me laughing out loud. She plays the hard of hearing and sassy character perfectly.

Andie Peterson, as Charlotte Hay, was superb as usual. She commands the stage with such grace and poise in every role I have had the pleasure of seeing her in and this is no different.

Eric Tyulyandin, as George Hay, absolutely stole the show in the 2nd act. When his character got drunk it was non stop laughter. Some of the funniest scenes I have seen in a while.

Mikayla Hjelden, Drake Aasen and Alex Ngo were such fun in their characters as Rosalind Hay, Howard and Paul Frank. I believe this is the first lead role I have seen Mikayla in, but hopefully not the last. She is a very talented actress. Drake Aasen, who was so good in Secret Garden last fall, was hilarious as Howard the bumbling fiance to Rosalind. Alex Ngo, who I have been a fan of since seeing him in White Buffalo last year, was excellent as Paul, Rosalinds ex-boyfriend.

Parker Degerness, who I have seen in many shows since he was a child, never disappoints. He has such great range as an actor.

Overall this was another great production from West Fargo and director Bryce Henrickson should be very proud.
