Performers of all ethnic and racial background are encouraged to attend. Character descriptions by the playwrights have been listed below. Unless otherwise noted, characters may be cast by actors of any ethnicity.
Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of your choice. Only Equity performers may choose to read from a script. The Wilbury
Theatre Group will provide sides and a reader. Equity members who wish to read a side are encouraged to prepare their own and either bring a copy for the reader or let us know the scene/page numbers upon check–in so we may be prepared to assist you. If auditioning for NOISE - Please prepare a short song. An accompanist will be provided, but actors are strongly recommended to accompany themselves on a song of their choosing that they feel best their musical abilities. Each performer will be allotted a maximum of 5 minutes. Also, bring your headshot and resume stapled together. If you are unable to attend this audition, you may submit a video audition. Please see breakdown for details.

HEIDI: (She/Her/Hers - 40s-early 50s - any ethnicity) A former debate champion who traveled the country in her teens giving speeches about the Constitution at American legion halls for prize money. Engaging, dynamic, smart, passionate, and witty. She alternates between her 15-year-old self and her adult self throughout the play.
LEGIONNAIRE / MIKE: (He/Him/His - 30s-50s - any ethnicity) First appears as an assertive American Legionnaire monitoring the speech and debate, and a stickler for the rules/law. He later turns into Heidi’s ally and assistant, reflective and genuine. Mike is gay and a self-declared nerd.
TEEN DEBATER - A & B: (She/Her/Hers/They/Them - 13-17 - any ethnicity); this character is around 15 but will consider older teens who look younger; any ethnicity) Good debater, passionate and articulate. A student with possible experience on the forensic circuit and a willingness to share a bit of their own life and history onstage; acting experience is not required. This role appears in the 2nd part of the play and does a live debate with Heidi on the topic “Should We Abolish the United States Constitution?” She can take either side of the debate and present her case confidently. This role will be double cast.

ANY / ALL: This is an ensemble-based musical in which the actors are required to perform their own instruments. We are looking for a diverse group of 10 - 12 actors of all ages and ethnicities with a variety of musical talents and singing abilities to play various roles, including the Pre-show Actor, Narrator, Early Human, The 1st Musician, Wannabe Musician, Man in the big Hat, Mermaid, Actors 1-6 who talk about how much money music is worth, Drill Sergeant, and Actors 1-4 who talk about how much money a memory is worth.

ANDRE: this role has already been CAST. (he / him / his - 70s-80s - any ethnicity) - a commanding older gentleman. Once an accomplished tap dancer (or was it an engineer?), Andre is slowly losing his grasp on reality
ANNE: (she / her/ hers - 30s-40s - any ethnicity) - Andre’s daughter, carrying the burden of caring for her father.
LAURA: (she / her / hers - 30’s-50's - any ethnicity) - an in-home caregiver, compassionate, but confident and efficient in her work.
PIERRE: (he / him / his - 30s-40s - any ethnicity) - Anne’s husband, loves Anne but impatient with Andre.
MAN: (he / him / his - 30's-40's - any ethnicity) - a caregiver, physically fit and often confused with Pierre by Andre.
WOMAN: (she / her / hers - 20s-30s - any ethnicity) - a caregiver at the institution, often confused with Anne by Andre.

JUICY: (he / him / his - 20s - Black / African descent) - he’s beautiful; he is lonely; he is smart; a kind of Hamlet. thinks deeply about himself and others, struggles with who he is and where he fits in the world; haunted by his dead father; Juicy sings a Karaoke version of 'Creep' and is be comfortable singing on stage.
TEDRA: (she / her / hers - 40s-50s - Black / African descent) - Tedra is Juicy’s mother; she is a good mother; a kind of Gertrude.
REV: (he / him / his - 40s-50s - Black / African descent) Rev is Tedra's husband; her dead ex-husband ’s brother; pig farmer and pit master; electric; a kind of Claudius; Will Double as Pap.
PAP: (he / him / his - 40s-50s - Black / African descent) - Pap is the Ghost of Juicy’s father; was in prison for killing someone cause their breath stank, til he got shanked on the way to dinner; a kind of Hamlet's Father; Will Double as Rev.
OPAL: (she / her / hers - 20s - Black / African descent) - Opal is one of Juicy’s only friends; she loves Juicy and worries about him; a kind of Ophelia.
LARRY: (he / him / his - 20s - Black / African descent) - A marine; trying to heal from PTSD; has a secret; awkward; a kind of Laertes; he moves well and has gymnastics experience; he lives in the duality of being a Marine, while yearning for the love and affection of Juicy; he has depth and fills the silence; actors who identify as queer are encouraged to audition.
RABBY: (she / her / hers - 40s-50s - Black / African descent) - Rabby is Larry and Opal’s mother; Tedra’s friend; semi-churchy but honestly she just wanna drink and praise the Lord; a kind of Polonius.
TIO: (he / him / his / they / them - 20s-30s - Black or Afro-Latinx) - Tio is clever; Juicy’s cousin; oldest friend; a kind of Horatio.
