Actors will be seen on a first come, first served basis, upon checking in at the holding area. The space will be open beginning at 10am and sign-ups will begin at 10:30am.

Please prepare a brief monologue, showing verbal/mental dexterity. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Dorothy Ross (45/Female presenting) CAST (We will consider for replacement/understudy) A librarian. Smart, tough, big-hearted. Loves books, and helping people find them. She has a life threatening illness and is slowly losing her eyesight.
Lyzander “Zan” Hardt (15/Male presenting) A high school student. Smart, angry, headstrong. He was suspended and arrested two weeks ago, after a violent incident.

RAINA PETKOFF (early- to mid-20s, female presenting) A romantic idealist who views war in terms of noble and heroic deeds.
CAPTAIN BLUNTSCHLI (mid-30s, male presenting) A practical and wise soldier who is completely realistic about the stupidity of war, seeing nothing honorable in its violence and heroism. Strong physical comedy skills preferred.
SERGIUS SARANOFF (30s-40s, male presenting) A handsome, brave and vain Bulgarian officer who has recently been lauded as a war hero.
MAJOR PAUL PETKOFF (50s-60s, male presenting) The inept father of Raina; he is wealthy by Bulgarian standards, but he is also unread, uncouth, and incompetent.
CATHERINE PETKOFF (50s-60s, female presenting) CAST (We will consider for replacement/understudy) Raina's mother; she looks like and acts like a peasant, but gives every effort to appear to be a Viennese lady.
LOUKA (20s-30s) The Petkoffs' female servant; she uses her appearance for ambitious preferment. NICOLA (30s-40s, male presenting) A realistic, practical servant to the Petkoff’s.

LOVEDAY FORTESCUE (40s-50s; female presenting) a former actress and governess. A proto feminist, who is intellectual, philosophical, and dramatic. Once, literally gaslighted, which nearly finished her. Victorian era expectations of women infuriate and preoccupy her.
VALERIA HUNTER (50s-60s; female presenting) CAST (We will consider for
replacement/understudy) a widow, cat lady and Loveday's sister, who owns the Hunter Lodging House. Anxious, eager to obtain the latest formula of opium tinctures. Suspicious of the police.
KATHERINE (KATIE) SMALLS (late 20s-40s; female presenting) a biracial American ex-patriot and entertainer at The St. James Theatre. Born in Virginia, later moved to become an actress in New York. Badass American, determined, matter-of-fact.
MAN 1 (40s-50s; male presenting) CAST (We will consider for replacement/understudy) Doubles as three roles: POLICE CONSTABLE HENRY CRANE - Shows deference but hostile if provoked. JASBRY WARHAM-WYNN, a theatrical producer. Smarmy, veneer of politeness. TODDY, a Cockney butcher, a misogynist with no filter.

AGATHA GANNER (60s, female presenting) Of German-Jewish heritage. A hummingbird of a woman, intelligent, quick-witted, curious, quirky, and lonely.
PAUL CARMICHAEL (60s, male presenting) CAST (We will consider for replacement/understudy) A successful art broker. Intelligent, calculating, determined, and protective.
SCOTT BERTRAM (mid-late 20s, male presenting) A PhD student of art history, in the throes of writing his dissertation. Upbeat, respectful, ambitious, and naïve. Highly intelligent but without much “real world” experience. Comes from a middle-class, North Carolina family.
