This seductive comedy blends love, lust, and literature, with the ultimate battle of the sexes. Vanda is an unusual young actress who arrives to audition for the lead in playwright Thomas’ adaptation of the erotic novel, “Venus in Fur.” During the reading, realities begin to shift and Thomas finds himself heading into dangerous territory. Does art imitate life? Or is it the other way around?
SEEKING:
THOMAS
(Early 30s – Early 40s) Handsome, but doesn’t lead with his looks. Internal, cerebral, narcissistic, the essence of the rumpled playwright/director who might be older than he looks but still retains a hint of a youthful quality about him. An underlying urgency, vulnerability.
VANDA
(mid 20s – very Early 30s) Beautiful, strong-yet-fragile, by turns imposing and submissive. Sometimes completely pulled together, and other times a total mess. Capable of summoning intense inner power. Slightly unreal, mythical quality. Full of surprises and unpredictable – she goes from naïve to worldly in a matter of seconds.
