Soho Playhouse is not fully accessible. Actors unable to navigate stairs are encouraged to attend the EPA at Ripley-Grier Studios on Thursday, July 10. Soho Playhouse staff will be available on July 17 & 18 to provide assistance to actors who may request help with the stairs at their venue.

BREAKDOWN

(UN)CONDITIONAL

SYNOPSIS: Fantasies are harmless, right? But what happens when your spouse wants to take a dark fantasy from the realm of imagination firmly into your bedroom? For two couples, the boundaries of compromise, communication, and unconditional love are tested to their breaking point, and seven-year-old Mia is getting caught in the crossfire.

Note: All roles involve some intimacy to be staged with an intimacy director.

SEEKING:

Val – Female, any race, 30s. A middle-class mom who’s been with her husband since high school, now trying to take her life and sex life off autopilot. Kind, but with a sharp edge from trying a little too hard for a little too long.

Kyle – Male, any race, 30s. A middle-class dad who’s been with his wife since high school and feels at ease with their routine, sex life included. Loving, but struggles to step up in the everyday or step outside his comfort zone.

Hank – Male, white, 40s. A warm, hard-working husband who strives to be good, respected, and dependable in every part of his life, and does his best to keep darker impulses and long-held shame at bay.

Lenox - THIS ROLE IS CAST. Female, any race, 30s. A wife who’s been with her husband since high school, working tirelessly to make their life picture-perfect, while quietly growing desperate to complete the picture with a child.

Mia - THIS ROLE IS CAST. Female, any race, 18+ to play 7. A sharp, observant, and outspoken little girl who feels overlooked and ignored as her parents struggle in their marriage.
