BREAKDOWN
FESTE:
30s- 60s. Male. Any ethnicity. Countess Olivia’s jester and, in this production, our Master of Ceremonies. In this incarnation of Twelfth Night, Feste is a highly featured role. Sharp, observant and witty, he is a genius with words. Feste’s innate ability for acutely sizing up the world around him allows him to point out the folly of those around him. Must be able to sing and ideally (but not necessarily) be able to play multiple instruments. Looking for an actor who can captivate our audience and draw them in by creating a palpable magical atmosphere. Must have a tremendous facility with text and an innate sense of how to navigate a Shakespeare comedy
VIOLA:
Mid 20’s-Mid 30’s. Female. Any ethnicity. Passionate and emotionally available. Her feelings are deep and she cannot contain them. Whip smart, quick and innately playful she has a light that shines from within. When she is shipwrecked, she disguises herself as a man (“Cesario”) to survive. Deeply romantic and ardently in love with Orsino. Must have a tremendous facility with text and an innate sense of how to navigate a Shakespeare comedy.
ORSINO:
40s. Male. Any ethnicity. The powerful Duke of Illyria. A hopeless, complete and ridiculous romantic. Fervently in love with the countess Olivia, who rejects him at every turn, leaving him extremely distraught. High status and occasionally scary. Must have a tremendous facility with text and innate sense of how to navigate a Shakespeare comedy.
OLIVIA:
30s-40s. Female. Any ethnicity. A wealthy and beautiful countess. Composed, withdrawn and cold until she falls in love with “Cesario”. Switches back and forth between the composed Olivia to a wild, madly in love, out of control Olivia. Must have a tremendous facility with text and an innate sense of how to navigate a Shakespeare comedy.
