We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.

AUSTIN: Male, Early 30s. A squeaky-clean Ivy League graduate who works as a screenwriter. Austin has a wife and children in Northern California but is working at his mother's house in Southern California while she is away in Alaska. By all accounts, he is a success.
LEE: Male, Early 40s. Austin's brother. Lee is a beer-swilling desert rat and petty thief who has come to their mother's house to loot the neighbors of household appliances. He is the exact opposite of his brother in looks, sensibility, and degree of success.
SAUL KIMMER: Male, Late 40s. A slick Hollywood producer. He is as sincere as anyone who is motivated only by profit can be.
MOM: Female, Early 60s. An absurdist vision of a powerless mother. Mom thinks Picasso is coming to town and quietly asks Austin not to kill Lee.
This show contains moments of verbal and physical altercations. Each physical fight between the brothers escalates as the play progresses. Austin at one point chokes Lee with a telephone cord while their mom watches. There are also a few moments when sexual/crude gestures are made.

RUTHIE: Female, Black, 19. The innocent one, obsessed with love or the idea of it and desperate to have it. Has a slight country southern accent.
VIOLET: Female, Black, 19. Ruthie's best friend, the unexplained black sheep of her family and loves her older sister, Avery, fiercely. Has a slight country southern accent.
AVERY: Female, Black, 24. Dreams of seeing the world outside of this town, a woman coming into her own and terrified. Great with detailed physicality and movement--Avery becomes possessed and is also catatonic. Has a slight country southern accent.
MAMA: Female, Black, 40-50s. Violet and Avery’s mother, full of regret, the only thing holding her world together is her love for Avery and her belief in God. A very spiritual and traditional pentecostalist. Great mover. Has a slight country southern accent.
JOHNNY “HONEYCOMB” JAMES: Male, Black, 24. Great guitar player, local celebrity, awkward teen turned ladies’ man. Has been in love with Avery since he was 12 years old. Music style is 1930s southern blues. Has a slight country southern accent.
Set in 1936, this show follows the relations of a small-town Georgian family and the results of making a deal with the devil. There are moments where characters sing hymns, witness a cross being turned upside down, blood is visualized on stage, possession is simulated, and a prop chair is dropped from the ceiling. This show does contain topics that may be triggering to some, such as: miscarriages, adultery, religion, physical abuse, murder, gun violence, and occult practices. While these topics are not all shown on stage, many of them do occur in character monologues. The character Avery does become possessed and catatonic on stage; this requires many characters to physically move her. Avery is kissed on the cheek by Johnny numerous times and shares a kiss with Ruthie at the end of the show.
