[LÉONIDE] 20s. A Spartan princess, disguised as a man called Phocion. She is quite charming and beautiful. She knows exactly what she wants and how to get it. She is rational, patient, clever, and driven by love. She knows love and desire better than anyone-and the way it breeds anxiety and anguish; she excels at persuasion. Always two steps ahead...quick on her feet.
[CORINE] 20s. Léonide's maid, disguised as a man called Hermidas. Fiercely loyal to Léonide, she has genuine respect for Léonide and her mind. Corine toes the line of confidant and friend to Léonide, but does not cross the formal boundaries of their relationship. Corine knows what makes people tick, she has more worldly knowledge than her mistress. She is an excellent partner. She can hold her own.
[AGIS] 20s. Son of Cléomène, the deposed king of Sparta, a prince and Hermocrate's ward. He has lived at Hermocrate's retreat as his sole student for 10 years. He is charming and beautiful. He has an open mind and finds awe in new things. He is relatively in touch with his emotions, although he is still learning to manage them. He is generous, obedient, and a bit like a puppy dog.
[HARLEQUIN] 30s to 50s. Hermocrate's valet. Funny, fast, quirky. Cannot keep a secret. Harlequin is a master of wordplay, he is a romantic and feels things very deeply-has an instant love and passion for Corine.
[DIMAS] 30s to 50s. Hermocrate's gardener. Funny. Knows more than he lets on and works it to his advantage. Dimas is witty and clever. At times he is self-serving and difficult; but when he commits to something he's all in, until he's bought out.
