Please prepare one 1-minute or shorter monologue on travel (it is okay if it is a personal anecdote from a vacation, a migration, or any period of motion that made an impact), AND one song that displays narrative and/or emotive moments in the style of indie pop, ranchera, soul, folk. Please bring sheet music for piano accompaniment. Okay if a cappella. If you play any instruments, you may bring your own to play while you sing. Also, bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

TRAVELS
SYNOPSIS: A new sonic narrative collection for the stage, told through narrative storytelling and music. Featuring various kinds of electronic music; including dance, techno, and house, ambient, experimental, electronic, acoustic instrumentation, indie pop, contemporary reggaetón, and old-school rancheras.
[STORYTELLER 1] - THIS ROLE IS CAST. 30s, male identifying, white. Doubles as James, the show’s lead character who is strongly interested in dance music. A playwright who often travels for work and is currently interrogating both his need for travel and the sticky parts, politically speaking, of this travel, all while navigating a major heartbreak. He is a great, engaging storyteller with the ability to sing. Able to communicate the shape of the story, commands and holds our attention with charisma. Personable, and curious about travel, borders, cross-cultural interaction, and also curious about the complications of these things. Must be able to play and operate a variety of synthesizers and drum machines, at times while also singing or telling a story. SPANISH FLUENCY REQUIRED.
[STORYTELLER 2] - 20s-40s, female-identifying and/or femme, or non-binary, Latine/Mexican. Plays Aurora, among other characters; sings an emotional ballad that brings the house down. A singer, a soloist in multiple styles with access to vocal improvisation and an excellent sense of musical rhythm and overall musicality. Incredible storyteller who communicates the shape of story, commands and holds our attention with tremendous charisma as if they could easily carry their own full length solo show. Captivating captivating captivating. Chameleonic fluidity. Engaging excellent storyteller; personable, curious about travel, borders, cross cultural interaction— a little suspicious of those things as well (or the dangers they can bring, especially to those not historically in traditional power). INSTRUMENTALIST- FAMILIAR WITH KEYBOARDS OR OTHER INSTRUMENTS. Must be comfortable with learning drum machines and samplers. Sense of humor a plus, great comedic timing and playfulness in audience engagement. SPANISH FLUENCY REQUIRED.
[STORYTELLER 3] - 20s-40s, open to all genders, or non-binary. Iranian/Middle Eastern. Doubles as Sofia, among other characters; sings folk ballad among other genres. A singer, a soloist in multiple styles with access to vocal improvisation and an excellent sense of musical rhythm and overall musicality. Incredible storyteller who communicates the shape of story, commands and holds our attention with tremendous charisma as if they could easily carry their own full length solo show. Captivating captivating captivating. Chameleonic fluidity. Engaging excellent storyteller; personable, curious about travel, borders, cross cultural interaction— a little suspicious of those things as well (or the dangers they can bring, especially to those not historically in traditional power). INSTRUMENTALIST- FAMILIAR WITH KEYBOARDS OR OTHER INSTRUMENTS. Must be comfortable with learning drum machines and samplers. [STORYTELLER 4] - 20s - 50s, open to all genders, or non-binary. Any race and ethnicity. A singer (any range), a soloist in multiple styles with access to vocal improvisation and an excellent sense of musical rhythm and overall musicality. Incredible storyteller who communicates the shape of story, commands and holds our attention with tremendous charisma as if they could easily carry their own full length solo show. Captivating captivating captivating. Chameleonic fluidity. Engaging excellent storyteller; personable, curious about travel, borders, cross cultural interaction— a little suspicious of those things as well (or the dangers they can bring, especially to those not historically in traditional power). [MUSICIAN] - THIS ROLE IS CAST. Any age or gender. Must have extensive experience playing the electric bass guitar and the qanun, and be comfortable sight reading and improvising on both instruments; to communicate story and narrative while improvising on these instruments; plays monosynths and polysynths, and be comfortable operating drum machines at the same time. Has interest travel and immigration. Has knowledge of Arabic and Persian music.
