ANDREI—30s, he/him. A gifted scholar and musician who is the focus of the family’s hopes and ambitions. When he doesn’t meet his and his sister’s high expectations, he falls apart.
ANFISA—80s, she/her. A family maid and caregiver who raised the sisters. Dutiful and kind. Continues working despite her age and fatigue.
CHEBUTYKIN—60-70s, he/him. A sentimental army doctor who rents a room in the Prozorov household. Part of the reason why he dotes on the sisters is because he carries a torch for their dead mother. Struggles with living in the past.
FEDOTIK—30-40s, he/him. A sub-lieutenant and one of Irina’s many admirers. A goofball.
FERAPONT—60-70s, he/him. Old fashioned attendant in the local city council. Dogged and relentless in his work.
IRINA—20-30s, she/her. The youngest sister. Irina idealizes her childhood and yearns for a life of excitement and romance in Moscow. She wants to be useful but she’s also a dreamer.
KULYGIN—40s, he/him. Masha’s older husband and a Latin teacher at a high school. Kulygin is content with his life, loves his wife, and is willing to forgive her transgressions.
MASHA—30s, she/her. The middle sister. Masha is unhappy with her marriage and longs for a life of deep complexity and romance in Moscow. Masha is witty, short-tempered, and critical of the world.
NATASHA—30s, she/her. From a lower social class than the Prozorov family, Natasha is initially intimidated by the three sisters and subject to their ridicule. However, after marrying Andrei, Natasha gains and enjoys complete control over the house and the sisters.
OLGA—30-40s, she/her. The eldest of the three sisters, a hard-working schoolteacher. Pragmatic, strict and compassionate.
RODÉ—30-40s, he/him. A gym teacher who often speaks quite loudly and admires nature. Often seems unaware of his audience. Plays classical violin. Note: Performers who play classical violin are encouraged to submit.
SOLYONY— 40s, he/him. An outsider who longs to be the center of attention. A captain in the army who often puts others down in order to appear superior. Odd, competitive, and crude with an underlying violence buried beneath.
TUZENBACH— 40s, he/him. First lieutenant in the military who is in love with Irina. Kind, gregarious, open-hearted.
VERSHININ—40s, he/him. Commanding officer in the military with a philosophical bent. Unhappily married, he pursues an affair with Masha. He has a bit of a weird streak.
