Book: Marshall Pailet
Music & Lyrics: Matthew Lee Robinson
Original Director/Choreographer: Connor Gallagher
Story line: This is a musical based on the book MAGIC SCHOOL BUS: LOST IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM published by Scholastic.
SEEKING: Seeking versatile musical theatre performers with comedic flair. All performers must be able to carry tight harmonies and move well.
MS. FRIZZLE – Character is female. An ebullient teacher with an indomitable can-do spirit and a voracious appetite for teaching. Ever-so-slightly irresponsible and ever-so-much-so omnipotent. Ethel Merman belter Ab3 to C#5, with rich Mary Poppins soprano G4 to E5. Able to easily flip between the two within the same song.
ARNOLD – Character is male. A teacher’s pet and very proud of it. Charming, sensitive, unreasonably intelligent. Struck out of orbit by the arrival of his know-it-all cousin, Arnold soon finds himself motivated by jealousy competing for Ms. Frizzle’s attention. Contemporary musical theatre bari-tenor, B2 to G#4.
JANET – Character is female. A transfer student, Arnold’s cousin. Brilliant, competitive, total know-it all who tends to brag about how she can be better at anything. Underneath her many layers, she has a deep desire to make her cousin proud. Contemporary musical theatre belter Ab3 to D5, with very strong head voice to E5.
RALPHIE – Character is male. The class clown. Laid back, always looking to turn hardship into a punch line. Ralphie thinks he’s bottom of the class in terms of intelligence, so he chooses to joke rather than try and risk failure. Contemporary musical theatre high baritone, A2 to G4.
WANDA – Character is Asian female. The alien hunter. Fierce, uncompromising, doesn’t have a crush on Carlos. Walks around like the hero of an alien action movie, and again, doesn’t have a crush on Carlos. Contemporary musical theatre belter, F#3 to Eb5.
CARLOS – Character is Latine male. The other alien hunter, as long as alien hunting is still what Wanda is into. Keeper of anti-alien weapons, and also of terribly corny punch lines, Carlos is Wanda’s action hero sidekick. He doesn’t have a crush on Wanda – this cannot be stressed enough. Contemporary musical theatre high baritone, A2 to G4.
Playwright: Joseph Robinette
Original Incidental Music by: Sheriff and the Deputy
Original Direction by Andrew Rasmussen
Story line: Adapted from the classic by E.B. White. Embodying storytelling characteristics of “Once” and “Peter and the Starcatcher,” — this production will utilize a “found object” sensibility of imagination, wonder, and ingenuity to inspire audiences on the literary classic. Featuring original music by downtown NYC Bluegrass band, Sheriff and the Deputy, the production will seamlessly incorporate story and song, but is not “a musical” in any traditional sense. Though not a musical, ability to sing and carry a tune is required. Ability to play rhythmic instruments is a plus.
SEEKING: Seeking a diverse company of performers. Performers of all types, ethnicities, and gender identities are strongly encouraged to submit.
[WILBUR] (18+) male-identifying. A pig. Naive, loveable, curious about the world, and in the end is a courageous true friend.
[CHARLOTTE] (18+) female-identifying. Wilbur’s barnyard guardian angel spider. She is smart, resourceful, maternal, and wise. Maybe a fabulous diva. Note: Must be athletic and be able to climb scaffolding in heavy boots, but also sleek and possess an elegant, spider-like quality.
[TEMPLETON AND OTHERS] (18+) male-identifying. A wily, mischievous, and selfish rat. A versatile character who doubles as ARABLE, Fern’s father, among many other characters.
[FERN/GOOSE] (18+) female-identifying. Fern is a young girl, loyal and loving, Wilbur’s human protector; doubles as GOOSE, an excitable busybody and energetic member of the farm family.
[HOMER/SHEEP AND OTHERS] (18+) male-identifying. The friendly farmer. Doubles as the wise old SHEEP and Fern’s obnoxious, bratty older brother AVERY, and others. A versatile character.
