BREAKDOWN

#11 - Midfield.
(she/her, 17, Any ethnicity) Possesses a fierce intellect and a morbid curiosity, as well as an expansive world view. Tries to be as relatable as possible despite her intellectual superiority.

#25 - Defense.
(she/her, 17, Any ethnicity) The former coach's daughter and the captain of the team. Takes her leadership role very seriously. A better captain than she is a soccer player, and though she'll never say it, that breaks her heart. (Note: must be willing to shave head entirely)

#13 - Midfield.
(she/her, 16, Any ethnicity) A bit of a stoner. A little wacky, and totally unapologetic about it. Lighthearted and loves to make jokes, often at others' expense without realizing the impact.

#46 - Bench, and later Striker.
(she/her, 16, Any ethnicity) New girl. Desperate to fit in. Socially awkward, and exceptionally good at soccer. Pure-hearted and humble. Home schooled, has traveled the world.

#2 - Defense.
(she/her, 16, Any ethnicity) Innocent. A worrier.

#7 - Striker.
(she/her, 17, Any ethnicity) Regularly challenges authority, often to her own detriment. Too cool for school on the outside, deeply vulnerable within. Enjoys her sexual maturity, and is a tad performative about it to assert dominance over others.

#14 - Midfield.
(she/her, 16, Armenian or Middle Eastern Descent) #7's insecure sidekick, until she eventually stands up for herself. Doesn't like to lie, and has no patience for liars.

#8 - Defense.
(she/her, 16, Any ethnicity) Childlike and perfectly content to stay that way. Clings to an innocent world view as things around her keep changing at a pace she'd prefer would slow or stop.

#00 - Goalie.
(she/her, 17, Any ethnicity) Has no tolerance for weakness, especially in herself. Perfectionist, high achiever, intense performance anxiety. Holds herself and others to impossibly high standards, both in terms of character and achievement. Possesses very strong soccer skills and formidable strength and endurance.

======

Actors Theatre is working on becoming an organization that is free from harassment and oppression and is furthering our commitment to our Core Values in all aspects of our work. We invite all artists and collaborators to hold them with us.

  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: We believe embracing diversity in all its forms is necessary to keep our work relevant and vital.
  • Brave Curiosity: We believe a fearless spirit of curiosity fuels discoveries that revolutionize our work, enrich our lives, and empower us to grow.
  • Listening and Sharing: We believe listening and sharing with generosity inspires transformative dialogue and collaboration.
  • Adaptability: We believe foresight and flexibility are essential to serve the ever-evolving needs and aspirations of our community and industry

*In reference to the information above – these are descriptions of the characters as identified in the script and in collaboration with the creative team. They are not meant to be exhaustive of who should play these roles and we seek to cast as expansively and authentically as possible. As an ADA compliant theatre, we welcome performers of all abilities and will make all reasonable accommodations in order to cast performers, regardless of disability, in any role possible. This is a play that requires athleticism and an aptitude for soccer but we recognize this can be achieved in many ways. We also recognize that most characters are written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide to make your audition experience positive.
