Please prepare a short, contemporary song in the vein of Duncan Sheik that shows range. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please bring a copy of your headshot and resume stapled together.

SEEKING:
[LILY OWENS]: Female, 14 years old, Caucasian. A precocious, driven and self-possessed 14-year-old from South Carolina. She moves through the world with a lot of darkness and wrestles with a mixture of anger, melancholy and guilt, all fed by the belief that she is responsible for the death of her mother. G3 to D5 (belt), head voice/falsetto up to F5.
[FEMALE ENSEMBLE/QUEENIE/ZACH’S MOTHER]: Female, 20’s- 30’s. African-American. One of the Sisters of Mary who come to the Boatwright house to pray in song to the higher being. Must have a fantastic pop-rock voice with range.
[FEMALE ENSEMBLE/PERCUSSIONIST]: Female, 20’s-40’s. African American. One of the Sisters of Mary who come to the Boatwright house to pray in song to the higher being. Must have a fantastic pop-rock voice with range. MUST BE AN EXCELLENT HAND DRUMMER/PERCUSSIONIST AND BE ABLE TO LEAD SOLO PERCUSSION MOMENTS IN THE SHOW (djembe, conga, or other African percussion instrument).

[ROSALEEN DAISE]: Female, 20’s-30’s, African-American. The Owens’ housekeeper. Runs away with Lily to South Carolina after getting beat up by two white men in her attempt to register to vote. Smart, headstrong, and speaks her mind, which tends to get her in trouble. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
[AUGUST BOATWRIGHT]: Female, 40’s- early 50’s. African-American. The eldest of the Boatwright sisters. A beekeeper who sells honey to the locals in Tiberon, South Carolina. Stoic and Warm. A caretaker and a strong independent-minded business woman. Takes in Lily and Rosaleen after they run away, much to the initial dismay of her sister, June. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
[JUNE BOATWRIGHT]: (ROLE CAST) Female, 30’s-40’s, African-American. The middle of the 3 Boatwright sisters. Stern and somewhat salty and sarcastic- doesn’t have time for nonsense or annoyances. Has a seemingly sharp tongue, but comes from a place of being protective of her sisters and their home. She’s pursued by Neil relentlessly, and always denies him, but her sisters know that she enjoys it. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED AND ACCEPTED.
[MAY BOATWRIGHT]: Female, 30’s-40s. African-American. The youngest of the Boatwright sisters. Overwhelmed with melancholy about her ever since her twin sister, April, died. Quiet, reserved, but has a warmth about her. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
[T RAY OWENS]: (ROLE CAST) Male, 40’s, Caucasian. Lily’s father. Emotionally volatile, deeply strict—can blow up quickly. Angry with Lily for running away but still, deep down, he blames Lily for his wife’s death. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED AND ACCEPTED.
[NEIL]: Male, 30’s-40’s, African American. The principal of the local school who attempts to court May on a near daily basis, only to be rejected. Persistent, good-hearted, handsome, and awkwardly funny. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED
[ZACH]: Male, 16 years old, African-American. Helps the Boatwright sisters with their beekeeping. Begins a friendship, including some flirting, with Lily when she arrives at the Boatwright house. A good, honest, and smart boy that ends up wrongfully arrested by the police and beaten while in jail. Never loses his optimism throughout the ordeal. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
[SHOPKEEPER/MR. CLAYTON/POLICE OFFICER]: Male, 30’s-40’s, Caucasian. Must have an excellent pop rock voice that can navigate the music of Duncan Sheik. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
[LAW CLERK/POLICE OFFICER]: Male, 30’s-40’s, Caucasian. Must have an excellent pop rock voice that can navigate the music of Duncan Sheik. ROLE HAS BEEN OFFERED.
