JEANNE
Female 40s; an earthy, sensual woman with great compassion
Singer/actress

ARIEL
A young boy – actor must play 9 – 16 years old. Must have an unbroken voice.
Jeanne’s son – to whom she tells her memories of the boys’ ''nine fathers.'' Singing role.

GEORGES
Male 40s; Jeanne’s husband – a brutish military man. Singer/baritone.

HENRI
Male 40s; A leader – authoritative and quietly powerful. Good singer/dancer. Baritone. Should be able to harmonize.

ALAIN
Male Late 20s; This character is Austrian. Upbeat personality. Good singer/dancer.
Baritone. Should be able to harmonize.

ANTOINE
Male 30s; This character is French and Jewish. Good singer/dancer. Baritone. Should be able to harmonize.

ALEXIS
Male 20s; This character is African-American. Lively personality – Good dancer and singer. Should be able to harmonize.

JOSEPH
Male 20s; This character is African-American. Alexis’ brother. Good dancer and singer. Should be able to harmonize.

MARCEL
Male 30s – 40s; This character is Russian. A robust clown. Good singer with ability to do ‘eccentric’ dance. Baritone. Should be able to harmonize.

ROBERT
Male 30s; This character is Irish. A poet very good-looking and romantic. Great singer Baritone or tenor. Should be able to harmonize.

MICHEL
Male early 20s; This character is Middle-Eastern. Mysterious. Beautiful tenor voice to High C. Should be able to harmonize.

CHARLES
Male early 20s; This character is Asian. Virginal and shy. Great dancer/good singer. Should be able to harmonize.
