BREAKDOWN
While preparing to open The Museum of Broken Relationships exhibit in Brooklyn, Kirsten is confronted by Pierce, who is desperately trying to get his adoptive mother’s wedding ring back. That encounter sparks the discovery of decades-old secrets and unresolved conflict in both of their lives. What unfolds is the story of relationships—both lost and found—set against a museum that celebrates objects from our past and the compelling stories they reveal.
KIRSTEN Mid 30s - early 40s. Passionate art gallery owner hosting The Museum of Broken Relationships as her inaugural exhibit in Brooklyn. Warm, but emotionally guarded. Seeking answers about her heritage, a rift in her family’s past, and how this may have shaped who she is. (High Mix)
PIERCE Mid 30s - early 40s. This character is African American. Wealthy, reluctant member of the cultural elite. Struggling with the recent death of his overbearing, emotionally cold, adoptive mother. Frequently hides behind a mask of humor. Learns to take risks and embrace life as he attempts to discover answers to disquieting questions about his past. (Baritenor)
MILLICENT / HANNAH BLAU 50+. Two roles played by the same woman: Pierce's extravagant, elegant, unconventional, adoptive mother, and an older Croatian woman at a Synagogue in Zagreb. (Alto)
DESI Late 20s - mid 30s. Kirsten’s quirky, exuberant gallery assistant. (Mix/Belt)
ROLE IS CAST.
COREY Late 20s - mid 30s. Kirsten’s witty gallery assistant. Reliable and especially gifted at corralling the more free-spirited Desi. (Baritenor) ROLE IS CAST.
TOMAS Late 20s - mid 40s. Gregarious driver-for-hire in Zagreb, Croatia, who gets caught up in Kirsten’s search for her family. (Range flexible - Group vocals only) ROLE IS CAST.
WE ENCOURAGE ACTORS OF ALL ETHNICIES AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS TO ATTEND.
