The producers, creative team and casting team are committed to an equitable, inclusive, and accessible casting process for The Karate Kid. We are seeking people of all races, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and gender identities to audition. As this is a work session, the current draft will go through many revisions and ultimately who we cast will reflect those changes. The breakdown and vocal ranges below refer to the characters as they are currently written and are not meant to limit the actors we're looking to cast in the roles.

BREAKDOWN
ALI’S DAD/ANCESTOR/ENSEMBLE: he/him. 30s – 40s. This character is South Asian. Ali’s Dad is an affluent member of the community who likes to host extravagant parties. Oblivious to his daughter’s struggles, he is more focused on his image and status. Will also be a part of THE ANCESTORS and ENSEMBLE.
THE ANCESTORS: he/him/she/her/they/them. The ensemble can be Black, Indigenous, API, Latine, or MENASA. Five dancers who represent the tradition of karate passed down through the Miyagi family. They are the conduit between the action on stage and the eternal life force of the world, between the world of the human characters and the world of nature. They watch the drama of the story unfold and push it forward with a light touch, breathing life and magic into everyday moments. Strong pop/rock vocalists & mixers. ENSEMBLE: he/him/she/her/they/them. The ensemble can be Black, Indigenous, White, API, Latine, Mixed or MENASA. Charismatic singers and fit dancers for Keone and Mari’s contemporary choreography. Ensemble will play various roles including lively California residents, parents, teachers, karate students and tournament spectators. Strong pop/rock vocalists & mixers.
