BREAKDOWN
SYNOPSIS:
This world premiere production of Monica Wood’s latest play explores different kinds of loss: physical, emotional, spiritual, and our responses to it. Andrew clings to the memories of his wife and kids after a tragic car accident. Helen is estranged from her daughter Teresa, who is lost in her substance abuse. And in the middle is Iris, processing the loss of her marriage and also attempting to develop her potentially blossoming psychic ability. She navigates between the ghosts we can’t see and the ones who are living among us.
SEEKING FOR SUBMISSIONS:
IRIS: Female-identifying, mid 30s, any ethnicity. Secretary of the English Department. Never went to college but excitedly follows the syllabi in her department. Kind, open and empathetic. Had one failed marriage and talks about having trouble finding someone. Iris is discovering that she has a gift for connecting with spirits and works on developing that throughout the play. Strongly seeking actors of color for this role and are open to a wide range of bodies and looks.
TERESA: Female-identifying, late 20s, Caucasian or bi-racial. Helen’s daughter. Once charismatic and boisterous, she has just gotten out of her fourth failed stint in rehab for alcoholism. Overwhelmed by the state of the world and trying to find her footing amongst chaos. She has been through hell (and her body has taken a toll in the process), but is determined to find her way out of it. Nostalgic, and misses her relationship with her mother. Interested in seeing a broad range of looks for this role.
