Notes:

  • Please submit only if you are “right” for one or more roles and available throughout the rehearsal/performance period.
  • Actors playing Branwyn, Bob and Alfreda will all don hoods and robes and play souls in the St. Peter scene, and may have other small walk-ons. They will have “as cast” listed in their contracts.

Tempest Landry:

African American man, mid-late 30s. Handsome and highly charismatic in a winning, mischievous way. Has a deep sense of hurt about what life has handed him that he suppresses with humor and charm. Has a natural way with the ladies. Also has a strong intellect that he only learns can be useful to him as the play progresses. Street-smart; has both the gift of gab and a strong sense of justice. Not afraid to stand up for himself, and can justify everything he's done in his life. Can be infuriatingly stubborn, but also has real empathy for his fellow man. Very strong lead; actor is on stage, central to the action, for a substantial portion of the play.

Joshua Angel:

African American. Perhaps reads a few years older, but in any case more mature than Tempest. Although he appears African American, he is, as his name says, an angel -- no race. As opposed to Tempest, the quality one notices in Joshua is a very strong and focused sense of purpose. He is amazingly tenacious. A piercing look. During the course of the play, Joshua will discover passion and tenderness, feelings the actor must drain from himself for the first act and then slowly allow to envelop him. Very strong lead.

Branwyn Weeks:

African American woman, late 20s/early 30s. Very attractive; a winning smile. The type of woman men fall in love with just from a chance encounter for a few minutes. Not innocent, but very warm and open. Has overcome a miserable past to become a source of strength for the men in her life.

Bob:

Caucasian, around 30. Bob's full name is Basil Bob (or Beelzebub). He is the devil incarnate. Very handsome and dashing, but not like Tempest is. While Tempest is mischievous, Bob’s charm is cynical. Underneath, he IS the Prince of Darkness, capable of erupting with rage. Actor also plays St. Peter.

Alfreda / Darlene:

Female, African American, early 30s. Afreda: Fun, happy-go-lucky; not unlike Tempest, but without his smarts.Darlene: Secretary who does her job, but will not be pushed around by anyone.
