BREAKDOWN

THE COTTAGE

SYNOPSIS: The true meaning of fate, identity, and marriage are called into question as a surprising, hilarious web of secrets unravels in this ridiculous - potentially murderous - uncharacteristically feminist, 1923 British tale of sex, betrayal, and oh yes, love ... when Sylvia Van Kipness decides to expose her love affair to her husband and her lover's wife.

NOTE: Performers of all ethnicities with strong language and physical comedy skills, hearts of gold, and solid English (RP) accents are encouraged to audition.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

SYLVIA (30s-40s): A lovely and rash romantic. Feminine, yet strong-willed, Sylvia's attempts at true love leave her frustrated and ever hopeful for a shocking turn of events.

BEAU (30s-40s): Perhaps the best-looking man in Britain. Logical to the point of pessimism. Beau is the type of fellow quite happy with the status quo, no matter what the status quo may be.

MARJORIE (30s): 8 months pregnant, pragmatic and a tad spicy. Unflappable in every sense of the word. Unless of course, she's in labor.

CLARKE (30s): A distinguished gent with a lover’s spirit. Always aiming to please, Clarke's kind-heartedness may lead others to take him for a fool.

DIEDRE (20-30s): An awfully pretty nincompoop. Gullible is Diedre's middle name. She's awfully sweet though, if you like that sort of thing. Surprisingly capable of unexpected clarity and insight.

RICHARD (30s): A murderous, yet gentle soul. Born to be half of a soul-mated duo, Richard is hell-bent on finding and keeping his true love (no matter what).
