Equity actors for roles in THE COLOR PURPLE (See breakdown). Prepare a short song in the style of the show. Bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided but will not transpose. Bring headshot and resume stapled back-to-back.

African American, 20s-early 30s. Drives the story. Vulnerable, introverted, seemingly passive but really not, has a deep soul, has a sense of humor which is sometimes wicked. Has a great belt singing voice.
African American, 20s-early 30s. Celie’s younger sister. Adventuresome, feisty spirit, maternal, educated. Forced by Mister to leave Celie, she starts a new life in Africa. Has a great belt singing voice.
African American, 20s-early 30s. Mister’s vulnerable, confused, good-hearted son. Represents the new generation. Has a great tenor singing voice.
African American, 30s. Powerful warrior woman. Comfortable being large, great sense of humor, vulnerable. Married to Harpo, she does not let anyone mistreat her. Has comic chops and a great belt singing voice.
African American, 30s-40s. Also known as Albert. Like Celie, a deep well. Handsome, big, masculine, strong presence. Married to Celie, in love with Shug. Needs a great singing voice.
African American, 30s-40s. A popular singer. Attractive, confident, dynamic, powerful, irresistible, but has a frailty. Has a knockout bluesy singing voice.
African American, 20s. Harpo’s lover. Attractive, sassy, fiery, strong-willed, unafraid to take anybody on, has a caring heart. Has comic chops. Has a great singing voice with belt and soprano capability.
African American, 40s – 50s. An abuser and embittered man. He is father to Celie & Nettie, as well as father to Celie’s two children, whom he abducts from Celie and gives away at birth. Baritone.
Female. Any age. African American. A gossiper in the church. High gospel belt.
