TAKE THE LEAD
[Pierre Dulaine] Early 40s to Late 50s. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). A former ballroom dance champion and current dance instructor. Raised in multiple Mediterranean countries, he speaks with an accent that seems to reflect all of them. He is passionate, impulsive, prone to outbursts; but he is also inspiring, energizing, and a born leader. Baritone.
[Arianna Rey] 30s, Black, Brown, AAPI, or MENA. Female (cis, trans, or non-binary) Arianna is the Interim Principal at Drake High School. She has a huge heart, and a deep connection to her student body; her foremost priority is the emotional and physical safety of her students. Brimming with enthusiasm and drive, she is hoping to assume the principal position permanently. Alto Belt voice to E.
[La Rhette] 17, Black. Female (cis, trans, or non-binary). Smart, curious, beautiful – but also trying to succeed academically in the face of significant pressure to help care for her family, and despite her anger and hurt over a longstanding feud with Rock and his brother. Dancing with Rock causes her to reconsider her assumptions about other people and to take the risk of falling in love. Mezzo/High Mix Belt to High A. Hip-hop dance ability.
[Rock] 18, Black. Male (cis, trans, or non-binary). Strong, but quiet, Rock often feels persecuted for things he can’t control, and it’s caused him to turn inward, except for occasional flashes of frustration. Dancing unlocks a way of expressing himself and opens him up to a less defensive, more hopeful outlook on his future. Baritenor. Hip-hop dance ability.
