[SERAFINA DELLE ROSE] A passionate, Sicilian-born seamstress and mother living in a Louisiana
village who is mourning the sudden loss of her unfaithful husband.
[ROSE DELLE ROSE] Serafina’s strong-willed teenage daughter, in love with Jack Hunter.
[ALVARO MANGIACAVALLO] A handsome, down-to-earth trucker with an affection for Serafina.
[FATHER DE LEO] The local priest.
[ASSUNTA] A wise, old woman, she is Rose’s best friend.
[JACK HUNTER] A young sailor and suitor of Rose.
[THE STREGA] A strange old woman.
[ESTELLE HOHENGARTEN] A woman who was having an affair with Serafina’s husband.
[DOCTOR] Serafina’s doctor.
[FLORA] A clown of middle age and juvenile temperament.
[BESSIE] A clown of middle age and juvenile temperament.
[MISS YORKE] A teacher from the local high school.
[THE SALESMAN] A traveling salesman who takes issue with Alvaro.

[ANDIE] Helen’s grandfather.
[ERIC] A serviceman who wants to marry Joyce.
[NORMAN] A serviceman from London, interested in Helen.

[RICHARD RICH] An insecure opportunist looking for his route to the top.
[DUKE OF NORFOLK] A dutiful patriot and More’s friend.
[ALICE MORE] A privileged woman of high society, she is More’s loving wife.
[MARGARET] More’s kind, thoughtful daughter.
[CARDINAL WOLSEY] A miserable, corrupt, old man.
[THOMAS CROMWELL] A ruthless, power-hungry, intellectual bully, he is the Cardinal’s secretary and
aide to the King.
[CHAPUYS] The Spanish ambassador to England and a devout Catholic.
[WILLIAM ROPER] A self-righteous young lawyer who marries Margaret.
[KING HENRY VIII] The hot-blooded King of England. He seeks the Catholic Church's approval to
divorce his wife Catherine.
[CATHERINE ANGER] A former client of More’s.
[ATTENDANT] Chapuys’ servant.
[ARCHBISHOP CRANMER] The sharp-minded Archbishop of Canterbury.
